Nice work on today’s mapping test, scores will be on Engrade sometime this evening.

Homework

Clear out your binder. Be sure to keep all of our notes, worksheets, tests, etc in a safe place as you will want to access them again in the Spring. Your binder should only have some looseleaf and your ESRT for Tuesday’s class.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Today in class, we reviewed the practice tests and completed the topo review lab activity using FormEntry. Here are some key things you will need to be able to do for tomorrow’s test:
  • Find coordinates of locations on the three maps we have been using in the ESRT
  • Determine a location’s latitude and/or longitude using Polaris/Time
  • Determine a map’s contour interval
  • Find the steepest slope
  • Draw a profile
  • Determine direction of stream flow
  • Determine elevations
  • Draw isolines

Homework

Study for tomorrow’s test. You can review the topographic maps tutorial found here, as well as any of the other resources found on the site.

See you tomorrow.

Today in class, we continued working on our topographic map analysis. At this point, we have worked with the five key skills you need to have. These include being able to:
  1. Draw isoline
  2. Determine the direction of stream flow
  3. Determine highest/lowest elevations
  4. Locate the steepest slope/Calculate gradient
  5. Draw a profile

Homework

Review the topographic maps tutorial found here. You will need to be comfortable with this for Friday’s chapter test. In addition, please continue working on the topos packet I distributed today in class. The only way to get good at this is by practicing. I will review this content in class tomorrow. Also, all test corrections must be turned in by Thursday in order to receive credit.

Our test will be in class on Friday. It will cover mainly fields, isolines, and topographic maps, with a few latitude and longitude questions thrown in. I will give you a practice test tomorrow in class. Have a great evening.
