Today in class, we began to explore the development of the field of astronomy. We looked at how our views of the Universe and how it functions have changed over time. We first believed in a geocentric universe, in which the Earth was stationary in the center with all objects revolving around it. As our understanding evolved, we transitioned to a heliocentric model in which the Sun is in the center and all objects, including Earth, revolve around it.
