- Determine a location’s latitude and/or longitude using Polaris/Time
- Determine a map’s contour interval
- Find the steepest slope
- Draw a profile
- Determine direction of stream flow
- Determine elevations
- Draw isolines

Today in class, we continued working on our topographic map analysis. At this point, we have worked with the five key skills you need to have. These include being able to:
Our test will be in class on Friday. It will cover mainly fields, isolines, and topographic maps, with a few latitude and longitude questions thrown in. I will give you a practice test tomorrow in class. Have a great evening.
- Draw isoline
- Determine the direction of stream flow
- Determine highest/lowest elevations
- Locate the steepest slope/Calculate gradient
- Draw a profile
Homework
Review the topographic maps tutorial found here. You will need to be comfortable with this for Friday’s chapter test. In addition, please continue working on the topos packet I distributed today in class. The only way to get good at this is by practicing. I will review this content in class tomorrow. Also, all test corrections must be turned in by Thursday in order to receive credit.

Back to the blog! Sorry for all the switching around, but I’m trying to figure out the best way to utilize all the tools available to us. Engrade was just too limited in its calendar functionality, so we are back to the blog. Please visit this site every night for reviews of class materials, homework assignments, announcements, links, videos, and more.
Today in class, we continued exploring topographic maps, how to make them and how to interpret them.
See you tomorrow.

Homework
Begin with some isoline drawing practice. Check out this neat online isoline drawing activity, and see how you do. Next, read through this page I’ve put together for you. It explains all aspects of contour mapping. Check out the videos, the images, and read through the content. All of this material will appear on Friday’s chapter test. And finally, please complete the five question quiz on Engrade, entitled “Topos #1.”
See you tomorrow.
